Hello fellow Westerners
To everyone who attended the 1966 Class Reunion on May 27th, and/or the Icebreaker on the 26th, a great big “Thank You” for making our 40th
class reunion a success. Judy and I had a wonderful time and we hope that each and every one of you attending had as much fun as we did.
I would like to thank everyone involved in putting the reunion together. Without a “team effort” it would not have happened. A special thanks to my
wife, Judy Wolfe McLarty, for keeping me focused and organized. Also my thanks to Mary Milam Griffin, Benny Goodman, Sherry Lovelady Curtsinger, Gail Staubs Cozart,
Cheryl Haynes Bilton, and Marvin Neely. A group I would always be honored to work with. These people came forward telling me what they could and would do and did it,
without ever being asked.
Let us all pass on this terrific website to all our classmates that Benny Goodman has created. He regularly updates the site and will be posting pictures from
the Reunion so be sure to pass the word to all.
Thanks again to all of those who attended. I enjoyed seeing each and every one of you again and look forward to the next time.
Sincerely
Ray McLarty

Classmates and Friends
For all those classmates who don’t go to our Westwood High School class reunions because you didn’t belong to the “in” crowd in high
school, didn’t graduate for whatever reason, worry about how you look, what to wear, or any other number of things you shouldn’t concern yourselves with,
you just missed another great time with us.
At the reunion hosted by the “Class of 1966” at the Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center in Olive Branch, MS, you missed an extremely happy
weekend and one in which, remarkably, all the years disappeared in only a few minutes of reminiscence. Once again, old friendships were rekindled easily and new
friendships were developed as we witnessed the wonderful ‘re-birth’ of 50 and 60-year-old ‘teenagers’.
It takes a great deal of courage and skill to accept the huge responsibility of hosting a reunion. Only a few alumni ever take on this challenge. For those from the
“Class of 1966” who did, there is immense gratitude for the efforts of yourselves and committee members of other class years who assisted. Your efforts
reawakened old memories stirred from laughter and tears, assisted others in developing new friendships, and provided an experience that will be cherished
forever.
For those who didn’t attend, please reconsider next time and remember when we come together with classmates from the past, we are not celebrating academic
achievement. We are celebrating emotional connections of the heart that were formed on the common ground of academics, and we’re understanding the importance
of having child-like hearts and touching base with our youth.
The next time you see a reunion announced on this website, please remember the ties that bind us, and the fact that high school cliques have dissolved just like the
superficialities they were based upon. It really ‘is’ possible to go home again.
Sincerely
Cheryl Haynes Bilton
